Due to the amount of rain we get in the UK, we don’t often have the chance to go outside and enjoy our patio areas and the garden we spent time making look lovely as much as we would like to.
It means it’s a good idea to have a space in the home where you can enjoy the garden from the inside, keep dry and out of reach of the rain.
Conservatories are a great place to enjoy the garden from within the home. For someone looking into their next home improvement project, they want to make a worthwhile investment.
Conservatories are generally considered to be used throughout the summer and the warmer months. But with the right insulation and the right glass, a conservatory can be used comfortably all year round and take little or no effort to keep in top condition.
At Trade Windows we offer Pilkington Activ™ glass in our conservatories. Pilkington Activ™ glass is the first dual action self-cleaning glass that also uses solar control technology. If you’re thinking about getting a conservatory, here’s why you should get one that uses Pilkington Activ™ glass.
Solar Control glass
The glass is designed using solar control technology, which allows sunlight to pass through the window but reflects away a large amount of the sun’s heat, so the conservatory doesn’t get too hot when the temperature is high. This allows the conservatory to be cooler than how it would be if normal glass was used.
The solar control glass contains invisible layers of material in the glass which allow the sunlight in, but repel solar heat away from the conservatory. Because of the way the solar control glass is designed, it usually means that it’s double glazed so it also insulates the conservatory, keeping the warmth in during the colder months of the year.
Another clever and fantastic design aspect of the Pilkington Activ™ glass is its unique dual-action self-cleaning coating which lines the external pane of glass. The coating uses photo-catalytic and hydrophilic properties which work in two steps.
Firstly the coating reacts with the natural light to break down and loosen dirt. Then the second step comes into play when the rain falls. As the rain hits the window, the water doesn’t form into droplets on the glass, but spreads out evenly over the windows surface. This helps to wash away any dirt that has gathered on the window and reduces the chances of streaking.
If there does happen to be a long dry spell, like we have just seen, a simple hose down will do the trick.
Because the glass is such low maintenance, it means it is the ideal choice for use in those hard to reach places. Particularly on conservatory roofs and skypods which are certainly hard to get to. The self-cleaning glass keeps a conservatory looking in great condition throughout the year.
So if you’re planning to get a conservatory, come to Trade Windows for a range of low maintenance designs to give you an easy to maintain and comfortable conservatory all year round.
